My son wanted to help with this Valentine tie wreath craft and everything else I am working on. This tie wreath is perfect for him to help and makes such a cute decoration for the holiday. We might have to do a few more for some other months! Maybe we will have a place dedicated just for tie wreaths and have one for St. Patrick’s Day, Easter, Summer, Independence Day, Fall, Christmas and winter!
Tie Wreath Materials Needed:
- 10 in hoop (I’m sure this would be cute in other sizes; this is just what I had)
- Valentine/red/pink/white scrap fabric cut to 1-2” by 5”
- Ribbon/twine/string for the loop to hang the wreath
- Ornament/heart to dangle into the wreath (optional)
We just sit around the table together, one on each side and start tying the scraps. My son is all about patterns right now, so he picked a pattern for us to follow and eventually he just wanted to lay out the scraps in the pattern. I had a nice long line of scraps ready for me to tie up! Continue to tie and press the ties closer together as you go. You can make this as full as you want it to be. We ended up using around 180 scraps of fabric for our 10-inch hoop.
Next, you will cut the ribbon (or your material of choice) for the loop to hang the wreath. We cut our ribbon to 12 inches. After that, you need to press your scraps apart and create a clear space so you can attach the loop. You can totally be finished at this point, but I wanted a little something in the center to dangle. We then cut out some cute hearts on our Cricut and laminated them to protect them. In order to make it last longer, I would like to look for some cute little wooden hearts to replace the paper.
