This summer we got creative and designed our own Patriotic T-shirts for the 4th of July!
Ten years ago I visited my sister where I realized the value of freedom. Angie invited our Mom and I to her graduation from flight school. There were several military functions we took part in together. I remember walking into the formal dinner, meeting the command staff, and seeing and hearing about traditions such as the MIA/POW Table. Mom had the honor of pinning Angie’s flight wings on, and I just watched my little sister with pride. There are several family members in the service now which makes me so proud. Memorial Day, 4th of July, and Veterans Day are much more special to me now that I realize the sacrifice our service members give – all to ensure the freedoms we have.
In honor of the Red, White, and Blue… these patriotic t-shirts are simple and fun to create!
This is perfect for kids who don’t like messes, because you use a pencil eraser to dip the paint one dot at a time. It is easy enough for young children to join in the fun! It’s also great because each person has their own unique style to create different designs. My nephew had so much fun making his patriotic t-shirt and he has worn it each week this month!
Gather Supplies:
- Pencils
- Fabric Paint (Red, White, & Blue)
- T-Shirts
- Freezer Paper Shape Cut-Out
- Iron
To begin your own artistic masterpiece, cut out a star shape with freezer paper. Iron the glossy side down on the t- shirt. Place a piece of cardboard between the t-shirt layers so paint doesn’t bleed through and use a pencil eraser dipped in paint to create dots around star. Use different shades of red and blue by diluting with white paint. Allow the paint to dry completely and peel star off the t-shirt.
We would love to see your finished projects! Please post your pictures in the comments!!
